As manager of the Darwen Colliery, he noticed that the clay brought up from the mine was of extraordinary quality. His vision – to make the finest handcrafted fireclay sinks in the whole of England – arose from a desire to turn a wasted by-product into something of beauty and value. Shaws sinks continue to be handcrafted at our premises in the same quiet corner of North West England as they were when Arthur Shaw first started out on Valentine’s Day 1897.
